How our noise contours have varied

Over the years, the aviation industry has seen massive improvements in aircraft design and operational procedures. ​​

The following map shows how our noise contours have varied since 1974. The map shows the annual 57 dB daytime contour (LAeq,16hr).

The 57 dB LAeq,16hr noise contours pre 1990 have been derived from the equivalent Noise and Number Index (NNI) which was used in the UK at the time.
